but that would mean if i rev it in neutral... meaning without load... it would overrev! but it doesn't!!

Do people seriously think Mazda would release a factory car that has no rev limit???
Hmmm lets think about some possible situations that may arrise and result in a dead engine...
In the wet, I know i've hit hard rev limit many times when playing in the wet.
What about if the rear wheels are to lift off the ground, how long would it take for the engine to rev out to 1000000000000 rpm if presented with no resistance.
If you've never been presented with the glorious sound of a rotar on rev limit, then you obviously haven't driven your car hard enough

the most exciting thing is to push the gears just close enough to the limiter that you have a slight touch of the limitation, so that the engine shortly blasts through the exhaust and then push the next gear!
(of course you need the adequate mods to do this)

I later went back in the car and the safcii says my max rpm was 8900+. I am glad nothing was damaged by my stupidity but I definitely did not hit a limiter.

However, don't just remove the buzzer period. It tells you if you have low oil or low coolant. Owning an S4 there's been times where I wouldn't of known those (just had low coolant) without the buzzer because I couldn't see my idiot lights due to the sun.
ok, i know there is a rev limiter on 89 TII casue i have hit it quiet a few times. mine hits at 7800rpm, and when it hits the limiter it drops all power untill rpms fall some, and it makes a nice back fire too...

Well. if your clutch doesn't grenade, the engine might break an apex seal... expecially if you are still running 3pc ones; a big problem would be spinning a bearing, whether it be rotor or stationary gear... that would be bad. I'm sure other stuff happens too, but, those are the main things I can think of....
so your saying s4 na's have a limiter? cause in my 88 befor i blew it up it would just hold at 8k and not back down like a revlimiter, and also i downshifted horribly and watched the tac wrap around to 1k, and man did i kiss the dash lol, also the buzzer is a great sound especially if someone is in the car that doesnt know what it is lol
I will hit the max of 7500rpm in my s4 na but i dont redline it that often (few times a week) and my car actually makes more power up high from being streetported, but i would never rev higher than 7500rpm, mainly the advantage of redlining is because you bring yourself higher into the powerband in the next gear when you shift and to burn out all the carbon in the engine which is a good thing too.
s4 n/a i think its higher then 8000rpm my friend gone past it wth a good runing motor and headers and intake http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vie3saOOTJA

I think we can close this thread now.
