Reusing Irons and Housing

Hey everyone, I am in the middle of a rebuild and was wondering if these components were salvageable. Everything else I have specced out and seems to be in good shape. Just some questionable areas. The motor had mismatched rotors so I know that probably caused some issues. (Most of my bearings were worn out). I don't have money for all new parts, so I need to budget where I can. Can maybe afford 1 or 2 new iron/housings.

Housing

Housing

>2mm flaking for about 7 inches in length

Width of flaking, I was off a little.

Corrosion on housing

Tiny chip in center iron, nail barely hangs.

Corrosion on iron.

Some discoloring/corrosion? Still feels smooth to the touch. Scrubbed with blue scotch brite.

Some scratching or chatter on eshaft.

the eshaft and iron look ok to me, but that rotor housing is pretty tired.

Thanks for the reply. What part looks bad on the rotor housing? The actual chrome surface itself? Because both of my housing look like that on the chrome area.

that 2mm outer edge gap would be a big concern.

chrome looks good to me, but I am sure the are more educated housing ppl on here than me.

Side point. I see all these billet motors these days. you'd think there would be a decent market for someone to make these things besides mazda.

They do exist, but the simple reality is there isn't enough demand amongst Rx7 owners to make the price go down. There is some demand, but these parts are expensive to manufacture and therefore have to be sold in decent quantity for economies of scale to reduce the price offered to the consumer.

As such, they're reserved for people who are doing all-out builds because they're expensive. AFAIK they are all 13B-REW based too. Meanwhile K-series and LS engines have lots of billet options because the market is wider.

It will still be cheaper to find and lap a set of OEM irons than to buy billet, and that is all most of us need anyways.

EDIT:

Browse away: https://www.billetrotary.com.au/billet-end-plates

A front iron alone is $3250 AUD
