Reusing exhaust gaskets???

I had to remove my rebuilt engine (91 Turbo) with only 2500 miles on it. I am not trying to scimp on parts and spending money. However, I don't want to purchase parts unless I need to.

Is it ok to reuse the exhaust gasket that is between the engine and the turbo mainfold? And also the gasket that is between the manifold and the turbo? I know these two gaskets are pricey. They came off clean. So what is the forum consensus? I tried searching No luck

Thanks for your help

James

Yes it's fine. As long as the metal is not corroded. That particular gasket is like $45 new I believe

I just did a turbo upgrade/rebuild and the guy working on it advised me to get new gaskets for turbo to manifold and turbo to DP. Apparently these gaskets (or at least one of them) have a compression material sandwiched between the metal.

Yeah, I have heard that too I am getting the same turbo upgrade at Majestic that you got. I guess the major difference in our setups is that I am streetported.

I may asked you this before but are you going to dyno your car?

Yes, but not for probably a couple of months. I'm waiting to add the Haltech F5 AIC, a 720cc injector plumbed at rear of intercooler and a Profec B to better control my wastegate so my boost ramps faster.

I have lost some mid-range torque (for now) but the topend is all smiles.

last nite I raced one of my friend's (he has a 10th AE) on the freeway. Before my upgrade we were dead even. He followed me to a straight onramp and I eased up the rpms in 2nd and he was waiting so I gradually floor it at about 3500 and pull him in 2nd, 3rd. and 4th. By the time I had hit 4th I had about 7 cars or so on him.

Then as we were pacing a little farther down the road I heard him drop to 4th so I did the same. He instantly went to 3rd and I was already pulling him again.

Highest boost I've seen is about 10.5 at 6000rpm in 4th. Most of the time it's around 8-9.5 at upper end.

It's a big improvement and I still don't have the rest of the mods yet that will really improve things.

Inspect the gaskets very carefully - look for signs of cracking or leaks on the inside sealing edge.&nbsp If it looks good, you can resuse them.

I say **** it. Why risk it. It that thing starts ticking down the road, you will kick yourself for being a cheap bastard when you already had the exhaust apart.

I do it all the time as long as the edges look ok, and there is no black from exhaust on the sealing surface.
