Anyone know a way to restore the S4 black side moulding so it isn't all faded? Mine also has some overspray (white) from the moron who repainted the car and didn't bother doing any prep/masking. Any suggestions on cleaning it up? I like the look of the black moulding on a white car, so I don't want to do the color matching like the S5's.

 

I have a product called "Black Magic" by a company called "Auto Magic" that works great. It smells like a latex paint, so I guess it's more of a dye than a cleaner/restorer.

I couldn't find it on the company's web site, but I did find a product called "Bumper Magic" that appears to do the same thing...

Edit: I just re-read your post, and noted the overspray problem. You should clean that with lacquer thinner before using the dressing. The lacquer thinner might fade the trim a little more, but the dressing should restore it back to original.

 

take it all off shave it and paint it because it will lok way better

 

That's a matter of opinion... in this case, it's my opinion that matters :-p I'm not too into the shaved moulding look on an FC. Just looks too...plain!

I was thinking to try vinyl dye like used on interior.
Haven't tried it though.

 

Trim paint. Most auto body shops carry it. Just clean and lightly sand the existing trim with 300 grit paper, mask off, and spray. The trim paint is designed to remain flexable and matches the semi-gloss black of most OEM trim.

 

amazingly enough peant butter does wonders, put some on the moldings and then wipe it off and it'll look like black magic!

 

That's because of the oil. Take some E.V.O.O. and wipe a bit of that on. My friend's family does car shows, they say it works wonders. :-D

This is the product I was thinking of in my earlier post; it's not called "Black Magic" as I thought, it's called "Black Vinyl Coat". It's a plastic coating that you can wipe on (no need for masking and spraying), and it restores black trim to look like new. I also used it on my ash tray lid, which had faded to a licorice/tan color, and it still looks new 3 years later.

I expect the other products mentioned here are also good, but I've had excellent experience with this one.

I don't know where you can find a dealer for this--my brother used to be a DuPont jobber, and always loaded me up with all sorts of stuff like this to experiment with.

Company called Eastwood (eastwood.com ???) They sell hundreds of products made just for restoring cars, paints, tools, fabrication supplies, etc... I have used them for many years and have never been disapointed. They sell a product to restore bumpers and black plastic trim . Check them out
