Restoration of the 88 'vert [56k OFG WTF BBQ!]

Well the 'vert project is in full swing. So far we've stripped the interior, removed the top and fixed the trunk that didnt open previously.

Here is a outline of what we plan to accomplish in the first phase of work on this car.
Remove interior
Remove top
Remove wiring
Pressure wash and clean interior areas of chassis
Repair rust and fiberglass
Replace top and clean frame and motors
Replace all top, window and door seals
Replace or clean/repair TENEX fasteners for 'vert top
Clean and lube window tracks
Rewire window regulators as needed
Repair LOGICON (HVAC, lighting controls)
Resolder various electrical contacts and ECU pins
Reground ECU
Wire and prepare for future audio upgrades
Vinyl dye interior panels, retrim with suade and leather as needed
Replace S1 steering wheel with S5 or S6 Efini wheel
Fix drivers-side external door handle
Repair trunk damage from previous ricer wing (two torn holes)
Modify TII wing to function on 'vert style rear
Replace front headlamp motor

On with the pictures after some preliminary work was done.

Here is the interior as it stands now, should have the dash and wiring out by next update, then the scrubbing can begin. There was soo much soda and **** caked up all over the interior. In fact, when we went to get the car, we were testing the top, and for some god-awful reason, there was a Mountain Dew tucked in the top. Well, as we lowered the top, we hear a *crunch**splisshhh**crackle**, as the top cam back up my friend reached in and pulled out a full can, spraying **** everywhere.... ugh

Here is the rust and semi-repaired rust by fiberglass... I'm going to remove all of this and use steel then POR15 it on both sides. It isnt too bad, much better off than I had expected, the inner quarterpanel skins are completely rust-free, contrary to the leaky drain pockets.

Here is the TurboII spoiler we had laying around. I'm not sure how well this will work but I plan to modify the side fins so that they can rest on the body without damaging the paint and have the center posts be the primary point of securing the wing.

The engine wont be getting any attention for awhile, once the top and interior is fixed I'll strip it to the bare block and get to work on it. The primary issue with the motor is the 5/6th ports are not hooked up and the current exhaust system wouldnt allow them to function anyways... I'll be adding the factory airpump in order to actuate them.

Again, our date of completion is in December, so once we have all the main stuff we want done, we may consider some upgrades as well. Eventually this car will get turbocharged once the suspension is up to snuff and the rest is working well.

The airpump is useless on a S4 unless you need to smog the car, so your port actuation is exhaust related, which if the split air pipe isnt present that is yoru main problem. But good luck on the car and we all hope to see her runnign again.

I know, this is not my first rotary after all. -- Just my girl's first rotary.

The exhaust has been modified, after the OEM manifol the piping is 2.5" crush-bent all the way back, Y's to two 2.5" crush-bent pipes into the stock mufflers. Eventually a proper exhaust will be made or bought, but it sounds pretty good honestly... very similar to the RB cat-back. (Gotta love the super-restrictive OE mufflers, just like on the FD)

The reason I mentioned the airpump was that we dont plan on adding a cat converter or any of the emissions; however, the airpump is a handy-dandy way to actuate the 6pi system.

I dont think the color will be changing anytime soon, she likes the yellow after seeing it in person... more than likely, when it is repainted the current unknown yellow will be replaced with Compitition Yellow Mica, with proper cabin, trunk and engine bay painting. This project probably wont be as perfect as the works of TurboJeff but I definately want to make sure my fiancee' enjoys her car, both on the street and at the autoX course.

The ports on the S4 are actuated the by the exhaust velocity, which it recieves from the split-air pipe. Not only does the car have a full exhaust but the split-air pipe as well as everything else was removed. It'd be easier, and IMO cleaner to utilize the air pump and ACV in order to actuate them instead of welding in another pipe and hoping the pressure is right to open them. This comes along with a long list of surprises I'm sure to discover once we start cleaning up the engine...

That is up there, wow... I hope you didnt eat it. My friend has that beat though, at least I think it ties. His 02' Grand Am, about 6 months after he bought it used, he became curious about the stock audio system and where the amp was -- according to the forums it was behind the carpet in the left side of the trunk. So we are at Wal-Mart one night and start looking, nothing there....then we see like black plastic wrapping, sorta like how you'll sometimes see styrafoam sealed so water doesnt damage it as an insulator. Well we pull it out of the way and its oddly cylintrical. We decided to open it and as we pull at the bag, a device, we have since aptly named, Black Charley, flopped to the ground. Laughing insued after the initial shock subsided -- we left it there in the parking lot, which it remained for like two weeks!
