resoldering CPU??

Well I got a extra CPU and decided to take it apart and try to re-solder anything that I could, being that alot of stuff on my car doest work, door dingers, lights, etc.. Anyway, I got all the circuitboards out (3) and have no clue what to do now. Everything *looks* ok, there are no visible broken solders or anything, what exactly should I do?? Thanks

It’s fairly simple. You want to remove the majority of solder from any connector attached to the board, relays, and larger components (like the buzzer or large caps). You shouldn't need more than a 25 watt soldering iron and decent $15 solder sucker to do this.

Then you simply flow in new solder into each joint your removed it from. If the connectors are loose, try putting the circuit board back into the CPU case ends before resoldering, to keep everything aligned properly.

I have been known to even resolder the resisters, but I don't recommend doing that unless you have a little skill with the soldering iron or soldering station.

If the board appears to be getting too hot (as the traces are lifting) then let the board and soldering iron cool down a little before proceeding.

But the key is removing most of the old solder. If you don't remove the old solder you may fix the problem temporarily, but it will re-occur down the road at some point.
