Anyone done this before? Performance increase? Is the only difference that the S5 turbos have an improved wastegate?

My turbo has quite a bit of play and I need to replace it. I should be able to pick a used low milage one for <500$ along with the manifold.

Any mods required to install this on a '87 TII?

 

you need the turbo and the manifold, if you get the oil and coolant lines that would be good too. the s5 turbos are all the same us and j spec
