My theory. If it was there from factory it must have a purpose, and you should put it back with a replacement or something better.

I have seen bubbling and peeling on cars that dont have that insulation. But they are cars that mainly sit intraffic for long periods of time. And I have seen cars that havnt had it and be fine.

Well in any case this is what I did.

Took off the hood and cleaned it inside and out good, and I mean good. Went to the hardware store and picked up some of that silver insulation(board type) and cut and test fitted until it looked clean. Recleaned again to have a good contact area and put it on there. Look really good and clean.

That car is now on its thrid owner and 50k later. Hast fallen down or burnt up any, and that N.O.S hood I put on there looks as good as the day I got it from mazda.

I took mine off, and I have a 10AE. Its been fine since.

hey i just leave it there not cus im worried about the hood but cus it hurts when you hit your head without padding (damn cell phones)
