Replacing GXL struts and springs, problems with AAS?

My car's springs are pretty loose after all this time and I'd like to replace them along with the struts at some point with some decent yet affordable components.

I have the auto adjust suspension which I could care less about but wanted to see if there was any problems with removing the whole system and just putting some standard struts in. It looks like they mount just like regular struts and I just have to yank the actuators and computer, but I just want to make sure.

While we're on the subject, what would you guys suggest for struts/springs for someone that wants to do some occasional auto-x and maybe a tiny bit of track driving? I don't need fancy adjustable do-hickies and I drive this car less then 200 miles a month so I don't want to put alot of money into the components. I'm pretty sure I'm going to want slightly lower springs to maintain the same ride height I have now (the worn springs would cause it to sit lower then stock, correct?

I also need a few new suspension bushings and the energy polyurethane bushing kit that Victoria British sells for $150 looks like a good investment. Will the bushing make a great deal of difference over rubber?

Tokico hp struts (the blue non adjustables) are pretty good. Then a set of RB springs. Thats about $500 for nice handling and a 1" drop.

I dont know about the AAS. I think you could just unplug it and leave the rest if you dont want to deal with it. I dont have that so dont take my word for it. lol

just yank it out, my car is an S4 gxl and came with Tokico Blue struts, just disconnect the stepper motors and remove them like regular struts, i have yet to see a GXL with these struts still good.

If you wish to remove the bulk of the AAs system the CPU for it is mounted to the right of the spare tire, and theswitch can be removed in favor of something more functional

Hehe, yeah, the system is pretty worthless in it's current state. All it does on sport mode is make the car see-saw and twitchy.

$500 for a full set of springs and struts doesn't sound too bad at all. How long do those take to wear out? I'm thinking of cruising the for sale section next spring when I take the car out of storage and maybe just buying some off a wrecked FC and save a buck or two.

Actually, alot of the replacement parts on my GXL have come from wrecked cars... I feel like one of those dudes in a Mad Max movie scavaging parts and go-juice for my car.

Just unplug and dont look back. I've got a set of KYB struts and tein springs for a 1.5 in drop but my shocks were so worn out that it actually lifted the car UP with the new stuff but on the plus side, I did find out where all those ants were living.

I'de personally use AGX and Eibach. Since the Eibachs are a progressive spring, a little bit more comfortable for street use. Like $600 after shipping from eBay stores.

Energy suspensions bushings cost an entire $95 bucks or so off eBay,

$700 right there for a nice suspension .

Or run the Tein's and modify them if they rub. That knocks $150 off it all.
