replaced motor? how do I tell
I bought my car a year ago and the guy told me the original owner had the engine replaced with a mazda crate engine, because the original motor was acting up and the mazda techs couldn't fix it.
I never really verified it because there was no real paper work. HOW DO I TELL IF THIS IS TRUE?
My chassis number is JM1FC3318L0801545
My engine code the best I could read it is E 070676
The only part I'm not sure on in the engine code is the "E".

A VIN check wouldnt show something like that. Why dont you call up mazda USA and give them your VIN to see if there was any engine replacement done on the car?

So this engine suposedly got replaced at 45,000 miles and now it's at 103,000 you think the red things are still there.
Is there a way to tell from the engine number? I'm at work and I can't call mazda USA from here, just use the comp. Does someone have knowledge about engine numbers that could tell if this was a crate engine or the original?
Also is it true that crate engines that they put in for replacements aren't as reliable.

If the reman was built by Delco Remy, who has had the contract for the past several years, then the engine is very well built. YMMV, but as was the case with Ilike2eatricers, many people have received Mazda remans with two brand new rotor housings.

Yea the blue tag is hot glued to the engine and wont come off unless you really try to but I dont see why anybody would since it's basically your proof for warranty purposes.
From what I have read getting new housings on a REMAN is luck of the draw. If old housings are within spec they will reuses them. I have heard rumors of some people buying REMANs and tearing down the old engine and scarring the housing intentionally before sending back the core so more new housings will come on REMANs and be in circulation. I got my REMAN from malloy mazda if anybody cares to know, but they had to order it from somewhere else.

So I just checked and my engine definitely doesn't have any of that stuff. So I know its not a spec reman. Is there any other way to check that this wasn't the original engine? Or would mazda ever put in an engine that wasn't a reman, but an actual new engine or am I just making things up now.
BTW nice reman ilike2eatricers, How much it cost around if you don't mind me asking?

Well it doesnt say anything except that the oil pan gasket was redone. I believe alot of engine builders use RTV instead of or inconjunction with the OEM paper gasket so that is a possibility. The only thing you can definately say is the oil pan was removed and reinstalled.

OMG, my front pulley bolt is marked in red, this gives an even better chance for it to be a reman SWEET!
Edit and the block drain coolant bolt thing! omg did i just pay 300 bucks for a full turbo longblock that has a reman shortblock!
