replace the metering pump at every rebuild?
i just finished tearing down my engine to find my oil leak. turns out i had no inner oil seals. that would do it, huh? anyways, my question is whether or not to replace the oil metering pump. ive heard that you are supposed to replace it at every rebuild. and another funnything, everything in my motor is in great condition!! is it possible to have a new motor, and not have know it? ive had it for 2 months, so it might have been replaced. i got it for $300 b/c it was flooded and the dealer had it for 2 yrs and couldnt fix it. i did it in a week! hehe, anyways, everything is w/in specs, apex seals are 8 mm tall, springs are about 1/2 mm off new specs, but my innner oil seals were completely gone? what do u think my motors been through?

This is just a guess, but it may have sat with the old oil in it for 2 years when it was at the dealer. The oil may have eaten the seals (this is just a guess). The only other option I can think of is that they were not re-installed after a rebuild (if it was re-built)

Re: metering pump replacement
I remember talking to either Paul Yaw or Dave Lemmon about this, can't remember which one. Either way, they know a lot more about rebuilds than I do. I want to say they said they never replaced them, unless they were broken. which rarely happens. Same goes for the oil pump and oil pump drive chain.
