Repairing TII hood scoop

I picked up an aluminum TII hood with a cracked hood scoop for cheap tonight and I was wondering what the best method is for repairing it. I've hear some method with a 2 part epoxy and fiber or something. And then I've heard people recommend bondo, but would bondo break down after a little while? What would you guys do? Thanks =).

well i am a body man. the best thing to use is fiberglass and smoothe bondo over the top for a clean non repaired look. dont go cheap with the fiberglass filler or the bondo because you could end up sanding on your hood forever. also start sanding with 36 grit paper and end with 80 grit paper, prime and wet sand for a clean look. you should keep your repair area as small as possible so when you send it to the paint shop it can be blended to the color of your car or if it is not the same color as your car then dont worry about it and sand all of the paint off and prime the whole hood

also if possible. if the crack is visible from the underside of the hood put the fiberglass their and the bondo on the top of the hood and sand it smooth.

hmm ok where do I find these materials? I don't know the first thing about fiberglass or bondo. :P Thanks for your help.

Edit: I'm planning to sand everything off and prime it. The hood is currently an ugly purple color...I've never even seen a purple TII...

well if their is carquest near your location or a napa either of those stores should have what you are looking for. make sure you buy a spreader and bondo sheets. read the can to tell you how much hardener to put in. dont put too much or your mixture will dry too fast

The scoop is non-TPO plastic. You should be using a ridgid repair filler like Pro-form PF702, not fiberglas...............

If its made out of plastic I would put urethane on it. 10 minue would be good. Sand both sides with 80 grit and make a ditch in the area where the crack is so The urethane will have a place to go. Put the urethane over the crack on the top and bottom. Sand with some 80 making it flush. Then wipe some finishing putty(dolphin glaze etc.)over it making the area you wipe bigger. Block with 180. Primer. Block with 320. Paint
