Repairing the lift points on the pinch welds
i'm goin to cut away and sand blast all the rust at my pinch welds and try to reconstruct them with new metal
heres what i was thinkin of doin.....let me know if you guys think it'll be better or worse or know the text book way of doin it
i'm goin to get some thick steel and weld it to the original vertical support and then put some new sheet metal to the bottom of the side skirt and tie it all back together with pinch welds
so it will be all rust free and a new lift point on the pinch weld with new metal

Seems reasonable. If you look inside the rocker panels, you will see that the center section of the pinch weld is made by a vertical piece of metal. If I was doing this, I would buy new outer rocker panels from Mazda, and then add the thicker metal to the center section. I'd then fold the new lip on the rocker to match up.

do know what the part number for those would be
i know mazda has them.....i called probart mazda but i was callin them side skirts
so he didn't know what i was talkin about
nevermind just got off the phone with probarts called them the outter rocker panel covers this time .....$119 a piece ....good price!
hey Aaron i seen on one of your pages you did work on the rear 1/4 panel
did you replace the whole skin.....if so where did you get them i can't find any OEM replacement skins for the 2nd gen ....only the widebody ones on ebay
if i can't find one new theres a rx7 at coreys with solid 1/4's
they crushed the 89 they had....let me walk around for 2 hours lookin for this mystery car lol

In the FAQ, you will find the FC chassis and body parts catalog. In it you will find the part number for every piece of sheet metal used on the car. If you wanted, you could order everything and build an entire FC body from scratch.

FYI, the Mazda rocker panels are do not include the entire rocerk panel. You get a piece that is short by about 8-9" at the front and approx. 1 foot and a half in the rear.
Another FYI, the 1/4 panels from mazda are well over $1000 a piece.
Sheet metal on the other hand is $20 for a 3'x6' and body hammers are cheap at Princess Auto
