repair cost

I took in the FC to a mazda dealer to check up on the car and this is what they reccommend that I do...

-Replace the rear brakes ...$240
-Replace outer belts ...$140
-Tune-up (Fluids, sparkplugs, air filter...) ...$310
-Fixing a leak on the rear differential ...$340
-Replacing both front and rear strutbar bushings ...$445

for a grand total of 1400 to 1500 dollars.

I brought in the car because of a needed tune-up, to look up on the noises that it made, and to check up on why my brake idiot lights came up. It looks like they want to do a REALLY comprehensive tune up.

Is this a fair price or should I look elsewhere in the So. Cal Area?

Thanks

Honestly I would look around a couple different shops, if you can't do the work yourself. Like go to brake shops and get the brakes done (those arent rotary specific , you should be able to do the "tune-up" portion yourself its really not that hard (I dont have godly mechanical skills and I dont think its hard), also the brake shop might be able to do suspension work (bushings) I know theres a shop here (in delaware) that will pretty much do everything BUT engine and body work (brake jobs, suspension work, tire installs/balancing etc) so maybe there is some shops like that in socal too. Good luck man!!

Does anyone know if Rotary Power works only on the motors or on the car as a whole?

That looks about right for a mazda dealership.

Number one rule of thumb.

Never bring you car to a dealership for repairs.

Unless you have a warantee that's iron clad, or you're leasing the car, or you make 100,000 a year.

Oh and that 1500 they quoted you. That's just an estimation. Its pretty safe to assume they'll pump at aleast another 500 out of you during the actual repair process. Bait and switch is such an easy game when it comes to dealership mechanics.
