removing tranny front oil seal

Any advice on removing the tranny's front oil seal? I've always read that you should replace this when you do your clutch, but I can't seem to peel it out of the front cover of the tranny... I tried on a transmission that I don't care about and I can't even get it to budge without hammering on it and denting up the cover. If I can't get the old one out without screwing everything up, I'm just going to leave it in there.

Haynes and FSM don't seem to mention the front oil seal.

You talking about the little 1 1/4" diameter or so one inside the front cover? If you're not going to reuse it, get a small flat-tipped screwdriver under it and twist- it'll pop up, then work your way around it...Note you have to pull the 6 12mm bolts & take the front cover off & get at it from the backside. Sounds like you're trying to get it out from the front, which would be fun...

No no, I've taken the cover off and trying to get it out the back. Dude you can't even see it from the front I don't think.

At first though I did think it was one of those two strange looking round things that the front cover conceals on the front of the tranny. Then I looked at the back of the cover and saw the light.

Anyways I'll give it another shot.
