looked through the FSM and it's not very specific ...telling me to remove general things. i looked back there several times and only saw one bolt and figured that wasn't the only thing holding that on there.

i thought about removing it from the shaft but there were too many thin spacers that would be lost in the engine bay forever.

if someone has a pic of it already removed or something a little more descriptive that would help me out greatly.

2 10mm bolts holding the actual bracket onto the back of the UIM.

I may have a picture, but your reference to the shaft and spacers has me confused. ilike2eatricers' post refers to the bracket for the throttle cable, which I also thought you were referring to. But, that bracket doesn't involve a shaft or spacers.

Let me know if it's something else, because I have some throttle body and rear of motor pics that may be useful.

If you dont want to deal with removing the actual throttle cable and/or cruise control cable (if applicable) just remove the 10mm nuts I was referring too and pull them as an entire unit.

If you are talking about the 2 12mm nuts holding the throttle cable to the bracket dont worry about the falling off and getting lost forever. They're not going anywhere since the entire "shaft" is threaded. You just need to loosen them and then pull the cable out.

Maybe you are referring to the little holding clip for the cruise control cable?

Well I got to the (2) 10mm bolts for one of the brackets that aligns the cable ...the (2) 10mm nuts to remove the actual bracket itself so that I can remove the UIM and TB, I can not get a view of.

Whoops. All my pictures are on my laptop, which I left at work. Sorry, but I can get you a pic tomorrow.

The good news is... I don't think any bracket needs to come off. You just need to rotate those semicircular pulleys to get some slack in the cables, and then pull the cable fittings out. I believe the throttle cable is crimped into a little cylindrical shaped piece that you just rotate and pull out to the side of the bracket. The cruise control uses a ball that rides in a socket on the bracket. I think there's a slot in the socket for the cable to be removed through. A mirror and a flashlight might help you to see what I'm saying.

Removing the bracket you already took off helps to give you slack, but I believe you can leave everything else on, and remove it with the TB and UIM.

^ on second thought, regarding the cruise cable, I think the socket snaps out of the bracket, and then you slide the cable through a slot in the bracket. My memory's not real clear, but take a look, and you'll see how to do it.

Hmm. I looked at exactly what you are talking about ...but I guess I completely missed something because I almost had the cable tip rotated and removed when I thought I saw that the cable runs through a closed hole and with that cylinder on the end it wouldn't slide out.

Both cables should slide right out of the bracket. On the throttle, both the cable and the little cylinder both slide out. On the cruise, I think you just have to push out the seat that the little ball sits in. The seat just snaps into the bracket. Both brackets have slots that enable you to slide the cables through. I have an 87 TII, same as you, so both our setups should be the same.

I will look for a pic right now, but I'm not sure I have one that will show the detail.

That slot for the throttle cable is exactly what I saw ...though it appeared that the cable didn't have room to clear the seat ...as if I could move it out of the way and it wouldn't go anywhere. I will definitely take a better look and hope to get this thing taken care of soon.

You'd think that motor was going for an emissions test soon ...that's a lot of damn vacuum hose. Suprisingly everything looks hooked up too. I don't see that often.

Yeah. I don't think I explained it well. You have to turn the pulley things until the throttle is all the way open. Then pull on your cable to work the cable part into alignment with the openings in the bracket.

Easier done than said, and it goes back together easily too. Good luck!

got it out easy ...other than that i have fuel and coolant everywhere now

thanks lol. i had to cut it off to pull out the uim. it was severely crimped anyway. i already replaced the fuel lines and a few vacuum lines. i'm just worried about the mess i left, especially fuel, and then hooking things back up right afterward.

You'll get it. For me, things always seem to go back together more easily than they come apart, maybe because by I've figured out the logic by then. Except for that little "L" shaped hose, of course.

I looked for some pics of the oil lines and fittings to try and help you on your oil injector thread, but couldn't find anything.

If you have an extra BAC hose around you should put that in place of the short 90* coolant hose from rear housing to the TB. Makes things a much easier next time.

In that picture, where do your thermowax vacuum lines run to? I think one runs to the bottom nipple in that series of (4). I can't tell where that other goes to.

I don't though. I will just have to get some extra coolant hose from Napa.
