Removing the steering wheel for aftermarket one.
I want to replace the stock steering wheel in my 88vert, is there any write ups on how to do this?
If you have an airbag, take out the fuse, or disconnect the negative battery cable. Next, make sure that you have the proper steering wheel hub! I actually bought a steering wheel puller, it only costs around $10-20 and it makes things so much easier. You wont even break a sweat. You'll need a rachet set. I forgot the size of the nut holding the steering wheel on though.
Here are the steps:
1) Make sure steering wheel is centered, and wheels are straight.
2) Disconnect Power (if you have airbags)
3) Take off horn. (I think it's only held together by tabs)
4) There should be a paint mark, indicating the center position. Make sure you mark that position. (try not to turn the wheel too much or your alignment will get jacked up.)
5) Remove the nut.
6) Slip on the steering wheel hub. (momo hubs are marked with an arrow that says top, so make sure that's all centered. Also, there is one gray plastic and a white piece of plastic behind that; both of which have arrows. Make sure they are lined up to the arrow to the left. Those are for your turn signals. You'll see what I mean when you pull off the steering wheel.)
7) Install and tighten the nut. It's best to use a torque wrench so you don't overtighten. I find that it will mess up your alignment if you overtighten. (momo hubs come with a sheet of paper that tells you the specific torque for your car.)
8) Pop in the horn and install the steering wheel to the hub assembly.
I don't know how to wire the horn button though. I know that with my S5, the horn goes off when you open the ground circuit. Whereas the momo horn button works by closing the ground circuit to cause the horn to go off. I was told you can remedy this with a relay, but there's got to be a simpler way. If anyone can fill me in, that would be nice!!
Make sure you start your car if you have power steering, and turn your wheels all the way left and right, then test to make sure everything is centered up.

did you even search before asking this? i know you haven't because i've posted the answer before.
take off the center cover off the steering wheel. 3 screws
loosen the large nut in the center holding the steering wheel but don't take it all the way off just most the way, it will keep the steering wheel from bashing you in the face.
give several hard tugs on the steering wheel top and bottom, left and right. bam it pops right off.
i'm 6'3 160lbs it does not require big muscles to do this

yeah I was in a rush and now my Sparco wheel is slightly off. I need to readjust it asap.
also I thought you where kidding about a steering wheel puller. I just grabbed mine and yanked. I didnt think it was that hard. BTW this isnt a fluke I have changed at least 6-8 steering wheels by hand.

If you yank the wheel off with both hands, place a pillow between it and your face. Ask me how I know...
Also I've cleaned up the thread a little...
The turn signals are aligned by the two plastic pieces. I do recommend getting your steering aligned afterwards though. As far as cruise control goes, I don't know, my car doesn't have it. I can look it up in my haynes manual and get back at you. As far as pulling the steering wheel, the more you do it, the easier it gets and you can definately pull it off by hand without hitting yourself in the face. As far as the initial pull goes, it's much faster and easier using the puller.
Same here Iv'e never had to use a puller, just wiggle it side to side while pulling and it slides off. Just don't pull on it with superman power or you WILL hit your face.
