removing speedo cable from trans

im putting a new trans in and when i took the old one out the the speedometer cable came off by just unscrewing the peice on the end then the cable pulled right out. the new one though the cable had just been cut so its still on but cant be used. i ucscrewed the peice and the housing came off but the actual cable wont come out. how do i get it out?thanks.

Undo the bolt, twist and pull it out. It just meshes with a gear inside the transmission. It's supposed to be a tight fit.
