Removing the shift ****.

Im about to cut the damn thing off. Ive tried twisting it off, that dident work so I SEARCHED and it told me to hold a vice grip on the nut below the **** and twist the ****, so i did that and that dident work, does anyone have any good step by step instructions on how to replace the shifter ****.

Hmmmmm, I don't recall having to do anything special to get mine off when I replaced the shifter bushings. Just unscrewed it counter-clockwise until it came off. I assume that by "twisting it off" you mean that you tried unscrewing it, so I'm puzzled at what the problem might be unless the threads are screwed up. Do you live near Chambersburg or Gettysburg? If so, I would be happy to come by and have a look. PM me if you like.

is it a stock shift ****? if so, twist it really really hard counter clockwise.

and if i twist it too hard can i break anything?

Use a 22mm wrench on the nut below the ****, and turn the nut clockwise. Or, use the vise grips if you don't have the wrench. Once you break the nut free, the **** will easily turn off.


Edit: Don't try to twist the **** off until after you've broken the lock-nut free.
