Arrow Removing seatbelt motors

Hey guys, does anyone know if its possible to remove the seatbelt motors on a s5 and still keep the rest of the seatbelt system intact and functional/safe? The motors havent worked in ages and I figure it would be a good weight savings along with the rest of the interior I already removed. Thanks for any feedback.

if you take it to a mazda dealer they'll probably fix it for free, there is a factory recall on them.

or you could always throw in a roll bar and some 4 point harnesses

...or do several other things... you could probably buy some S4 seatbelts and try to throw them in.

*shrug*

Yes, on any series 5 car you can take it in to any mazda dealership and tell them to order you new seatbelts. Lots of places will give you **** and try to get out of it, but they have to do it. If they dont, you can call mazda itself and tell them. They will make a call to your local dealership and straighten things out.

I dont mind them not working and i doubt they will honor warranty on a car that is stripped down to the point mine is, there is nothing left inside the car but a drivers seat and a dash. Im eventually going to go with a harness setup but right now I was just wondering about further weight reduction. Thanks anyway.

So long as you haven't modified the seat belt system, they have to honor the recall. (Note that it's not warranty work, but recall work.) You can, however, get the non-power seat belts out of an S4 or a Canadian S5 if you wish to replace them or get a harness, as stated.

I think I might trust a properly installed harness more than changing the seatbelts though.

What was the recall exactly? I actually just picked up my s5 about a month or two ago and the passanger side seat belt motor doesnt work anymore. Is that what was recalled?
