removing the rear counterweight?

CA removing the rear counterweight?

ok im having a bit of an issue removing the rear counterweight from an n/a motor .i do not have the mazda tool, im wondering what others have used to remove the rear counterweight .the one that is right behind the flywheel . any suggestions would be greatly appreciated , thanks again

This was an engine mated with an auto.? Can't you use a generic puller (bolt or claw type)?

You need a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer.

Put the nut on a couple turns and beat the flexplate where it attaches to the counterweight. The vibrations will shake it off. (It'll take a good couple beats though... Might take a good five minutes of straight hitting.)

PB Blaster will help.

If it's really stubborn, a prybar between one of the tension bolts and the counterweight will do the trick.

Flywheel is the same trick.
