Removing Rear Brake pads

Ok, i read the haynes manual for removing the pads, and it says remove the rear lockpin bolt, , so i unscrew it, and when i go to pull it out and its to long to remove due the its hitting part of the suspension.

I cannot figure out what to do, and i really need to replace these pads because they are very worn.

I think with it hitting the suspension it's actually out far enough to swing the caliper up. I vaguely remember something along those lines when I did my brakes - pull it as far is it will go, and see if you can swing the caliper up & off the pads.

The caliper moves maybe an inch, if that.

yeah, I just did mine a few weeks ago. I think you only have to remove one screw and loosen the other and the top half should pivot, allowing for easy removal of the pads(based off of my non-4 piston calipers, dont know what you have or if the 4 piston is the same way.) Twisting that damn piston so that it would retract, so the caliper could clear the new pads, was a bitch.

I recall mine being the same as EJayCE's Swung open after only removing on bolt. Screwing that piston back in is a @#$. Finally broke down and used a large pair of Channel locks and grabed just the end of the piston and twisted. After it moved a bit it got easier.

That method pictured won't work with the rear calipers... they have to be screwed back in because of the emergency brake system.
