Removing paint from interior trim parts?
Hey all I bought a radio surround from my pall on the forum and his parts car was riced out and the surround and all that was painted white with red ala type-R. I was wondering what you all would use for this type of paint removal?

At the moment the paint is chipping badly so I don't want to rist it chipping after I paint it black. If anything I would use some sort of remover and then paint it black. Even if it discolored it would look black and probably wouldn't chip. Do they sell a special type of paint remover for rubber?

you guys could try some acetone- it evaporates fairly quickly, so it won't hurt the plastic/ rubber unless you SOAK it...try not to breathe the stuff for too long though, it'll eat your kidneys

Yea acetone might work well, that **** will **** u up tho but it should remove it ok. Its pretty funny (not for the new owner) when people paint their interior to make it look "better" but because of the quality it justs looks like **** (but usually they think it looks good)! Some things people do...

I dunno if I would use acetone- it would melt your plastic fairly quickly- I done it before.
I would just recommend using a fine sandpaper, and just sanding it down; primer it, and spray paint it? Just an idea.
I am thinking of repainting my interior soon as well- since it is just red and ugly right now.
I assume I can just clean the surface and paint it, but I dunno, any other ideas?

Alright, so im in the middle of doing this. I started off with sanding off most of the old paint. Then i put on a few coats of Krylon Plastic Fusion Paint (I belive the only plastic paint around) I just got done with doing that tonight. I may run down in an hour and start putting the clear coat on. Ill post some pics of this when im done.

"Purple" - The parts degreaser that sells at Pep Boys for $5/gallon not only cleans parts, but it also does a good job of removing paint. It's harmless to plastics and rubber, and won't dull the finish. I usually let things soak for 24 - 48 hours. It may require several soakings, but it works well. It's also odorless, non-flammable, and washes right off with water. Good stuff.

Ok go to autozone...Buy some paint remover for plastic. About $4.99 plus tax. Spray it on and then wipe off the paint. Very good stuff and does not harm the surface at all.. Body shops use it all the time...end of story.
