Removing oxygen sensor

I have been getting really bad gas mileage and pinpointed the problem to the oxygen sensor as the wire was ripped out of the sensor! I bought the 7/8" sensor socket and tried to remove the sensor off my other block and ended up rounding it off. Tried getting off the sensor off my car and it also rounded it off! Is this the wrong socket that I have? What do I do to get these sensors off. Is my only option an impact gun as it doesn't seem that a ratchet is powerful enough. Let me know as I am being reaally conservative with my driving and I want to rip!

you should be using a 7/8" offset o2 sensor socket. special tool. barrow about 2 feet of extensions from your friends and get a breaker bar with some piping for leverage. spray some lube on it to lossen rust a bit. it will take some good muscle if its anything like mine was.

if push comes to shove you can take off the manifold and drill the damn thing off.
