Removing oil metering lines

I can't seem to get my wrench around the nut on the oil metering lines going into the housings. The wrench, believe it or not, is too wide and won't slip on. Is there a particular brand or a special wrench that will fit and won't be interfered by the washer on the nut (sorry, I forgot the what those particular nuts are called).

Kragen stores carry the 'Powerbuilt' brand of wrenches that fit perfectly. The wrenches come in a set of 5 for about 10$ if I remember correctly

Do you mean you can't remove the oil injectors?

If so, yeah, you need a special "slim" 14mm(?) open end.

If you're desparate, a pair of vice grips sunk into the "head" of the oil injector works also.

The housing injectors are easy to access with a socket. If I remember correctly, the rear injector on the intake manifold is really the only one that you can't get a socket on, and that's tricky with a wrench too, but the wrench I had worked fine with a bit of finesse.

Buy a cheap wrench and grind it down.

14mm open end wrench and a Mikita grinder to *slim down* the sides of the wrench.

I don't see how a deep socket would work since the top of the injector is larger than the wrench flats on the injector. UNLESS the deep socket is grabbing the *nubs* on the top of the injector. I'm talking series four injectors.

14. I'm looking right at the 14mm I ground specifically for that purpose.

this is for a S4. the 17mm just slipped over the entire nut. i tried channel locks on the little "nubs" on the injector...no dice but many scratches.

I meant to make a remark about using vise grips etc on the top of the oil injector or any place other than the spanner flats. If you use vise grips, I'm pretty sure you'll ruin the injector, especially if the top part turns and the bottom remains static.

Grind down the 14mm--you're going to want to use a wrench when you replace the injector, anyhow.

Make sure you grind down a SHORT wrench. As I recall, there are clearance issues with the curvature of the housing.

hmmm, the injectors came right off of my S w/ a 19mm or 3/4" i think i used. however, the injector on the rear of the intake manifold made the banjo fitting twist too and it broke off the oil line, so be careful of that. if you start to turn your injector and the banjo fittings wants to move with it, besure to brace it so it doesnt shear off from the oil line, or else youll be making new lines like me.

yup, S4 is 14mm. grind the flats on a 14mm wrench and take a hammer to the wrench to loosen the injector to save your hands from some major slices, bruises and broken bones.

I wonder how many of the lines will be broken in this process?

I would like to change my answer and agree with like2eatricers - it's definitely 19mm, at least on an s5. According to Mazdatrix, oil injectors are the same for all models, but perhaps that's not exactly true.

well, the two on the intake manifold were no sweat; it was a different nut (can't say why). The two on the housings are the ones giving me trouble. but i got the plan. no worries.
