removing gaskets

right now im having problems with removing my U/LIM gasket...its really on there....scraping it doesnt seem to work....tried working a razorblade underneath doesnt work either...all i can manage is to scrape off shavings of the old gasket...any suggestions? i'd love to put a new one on..but if this one is a PITA to take off...i wouldnt mind just slaping on some gasket maker and hope it wont leak

There is chemical gasket remover available. In combination with a SHARP razor blade, it works very well.

If you have a little pneumatic die grinder (90 degree ones work best) and a compressed air source, get the 3M scotchbrite gasket removal pads at your local auto parts store. Takes two minutes to get the gasket off and preps the metal for the next gasket (or RTV application). No chemicals, no damage to the metal from blades & scrapers.

If you don't have the above tooling, and you do a lot of work to your rex yourself, I highly recommend getting air tooling & a compressor. Saves a lot of time & frustration...
