Removing Fly wheel trick while in car.. ?

ive done my fair share of removing flywheels while they have been out of the car. so i have a peice of long angle iron i use while the engine is out of the car.

my question is. is there a trick to gettting the flywheel nut loose while the engine is in the car. ? or would my best bet be to make a new peice of angle iron that will fit on the flywheel while the engine is still in the car?

You can get a flywheel stopper if you like. I think you can make one with a 13mm wrench too.

Just look at the flywheel stopper on Mazdatrix, the wrench trick works kinda the same way. At least it uses the same mounting point.

all you need is a chisel and a hammer to beat the e-shaft nut ccw. hope you have a spare nut.

socket btw the flywheel and the bolts on the rear housing will stop it,than impact gun, or you use a breaker bar and lower the car, the weight of the car should break it

Dont even bother with the hammer and chisel from underneath the car. Way to much effort for something that would take 10 seconds with a electric impact.

I've personally tried the hammer and chisel trick before. I don't know if I just suck or the bolt was stuck, but I ended up cracking the flywheel nut in half and prying it off.

I had the car jacked up and phoned a Truck Shop that does tire repairs on the road.
they Came over and Zipped the Flywheel nut off with a Good impact.
Getting the Flywheel off is a little harder though.I used a Tie Iron, and a wedge of wood..Jammed it between a nut on the Rear and the Flywheel..Hammered at that, removed it,turned the Flywheel, did it again, and finally POP.
It is Wierd the way that the flywheel all of a sudden will let go from the shaft and the key..it is like.ARGHH>.Come on!...Dammit...Pop..oh!

Geeze, what kind of electric impact guns do you guys use? Biggest one I could find wouldn't do more than 250lb/ft.

air impact is gonna give you more reverse torque than an electric. Just make sure you have a compressor with a good amount of cfm and that nut don't stand a chance

+1 on electric impact. When I did my N/A it took it a good 30 seconds of being held but it finally broke loose.

I used my roommate's Snap on electric impact. Just make sure the battery is fully charged. It didn't work at first, but after a night on the charger, it zipped off effortlessly.

Can someone post a sketch or picture of how this 13mm wrench holds the flywheel. My imagination this morning stops at "the closed end has a bolt going through it...then the open end grabs the teeth how?".

Oh, +1 to impact gun. Beg, borrow, or rent (don't steal). I've tried all other ways with bars and **** and using the starter or vehicle weight. Found an 800ft-lb at Princess Auto (here in Canada - you guys have Harbourfreight or something). I know I paid less than $100CAN. It's not a brand name but works well. A couple of jobs later (gas tank removal on 94 Blazer FTL), and it was well worth it.
