Removing the ECU

Well just removing the ECU you would only loose the boost gauge (if equipped), but depending on how you wire the trailing coil to fire you may also loose tach signal to everything that needs it.
Are you building a drag car or something??? Because you will loose driveability and possibly HP (depending on the set up) trying to make a streetable car without the electronics.
Perhaps a better alternitive would be going with an aftermarket ECU instead?

I'm glad you responded Mark.
No, I plan on putting in an MS, but didn't want an asston of MS threads popping up.
I don't want to piggyback my ECU with the MS, I'd rather have just it, and a distributor system (w/ an ignitition box or somethink to up the juice). I was wondering if there would be any ill effects, also what all I would have to keep to retain my stock-operating interior.
I'd assume I could get the tach signal from the ignition coil?

yeah, I haven't done that myself, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Should be fine.
This is on your 89 GTU? if so then yeah there should be no problems (other than what I mentioned already ).
