Smile Removing the cats question.

Ok I recently got my financial aid check(first one at least) which means the second will show up in about a week. That means that I will have enough money to buy the dual exhaust from mazdatrix now. But I recently saw a post that said the cats in S4 control the 5th and 6th ports opening. Is this true and if so how do the guys with no cats on their exhaust get around it. With the removal of the stock system I also planned on removing the air pum and acv I am getting the block off plate for the acv from some guy on the forum. Does doing this mean I have to wire the ports open or what I do not want to do that sice every one agrees that if the ports are functional you loose bottom end tourqe. How would I be able to maintaine normal opperation of the 6th ports. Thanks for tha help!

isnt financial aid for living..?

taking the exhaust off is easy..but it can be a bitch if you got rusted parts.

The 5/6 ports are operated by backpressure, which the cats DO give you a lot of.

You could use an RPM switch to open the 5/6 ports. I believe there are a couple writeups

I want to ramove the emissions stuff since "I know people" I do not need it so that will lighten the car and the exhaust will give me some good HP gains since it is a complete system and just bolts on plus I am really interested in finding out if the numbers they got on the dyno. That is like 30hp but I will proly get like 10 or so since my car is still being brought back to stock conditions I still need to clean my intake the 5th and 6th ports are working but the mothas r durrrty!

With all emissions removed, I had the same ordeal.

Do a search with my name In It If you wanna follow my set up that Includes a RPM Switch and Air Compressor.

It's a solid setup that ensures the Auxilliary Ports opening on demand.
