Removing broken bolt from rear caliper?

sadly, the wheel bearing i need to replace is in the same hub as the caliper that has a broken mounting bolt run through it. The head of the bolt broke off right at the level of the caliper. Kinda rust.

How the HELL i am going to get this thing out?

Remove the other bolt holding the caliper on, remove caliper. Then you have numerous choices from removing the stud. Vice grips, dremel+flathead, whatever.

i could have sworn that the bolt would have to be out before i could get the caliper off.

^I believe you're right on that.

Use a... I forget what's it's called, but it will let you drill into the remainder of the bolt, and pull/screw it out. I'm sure someone here knows; we were discussing them yesterday.

The rear caliper is two halves, so take out the bolt that slides with the outboard pad and you will be able to take the rotor, pads, and part of the caliper off. Remove the hub and then you have access to the bolt. You might as well buy DTSS eliminators if you have the OEM bushings, because they will probably be seized to the bolt.

Use a torch and a punch with a BFH to beat the bolt out. The bolt is rusted to the hub, so once it is out it will spin off the caliper easily. I tried left handed drill bits and an extractor, and welding a head on the bolt, but rust > fancy tools...
Good luck, their a pain
