removing air pump?

Just wanna know if removing the air pump on my t2 will hurt anything? I am removing P/S A/c this weekend and wanna remove the air pump too, and i know that i need the block off plate but what if i just remove it and plug the hose at the block? Any opinions will be appreciated.
