I personally would take them out, clean them, and try to get them working.
But if you're really wanting to remove them, just take off the actuators and zip-tie the thing that rotates (can't think of proper term) into the open position. If you want to totally remove the sleeves, then you have to take off the LIM and remove them.

you wouldn't happen to have any pics of what it looks like with them off would you?
Would cleaning them involve me taking off the LIM also? or is there a easy way to do this.

You have to remove the upper and lower intake manifolds to access them. Buy a Haynes manual or download the online FSM. It's mostly intuitive on how to remove them. Left lucy, righty tighty.

Yeah, it really is simple, just a little time consuming. This first time can be a little intimidating if you haven't really done much under the engine bay, though. And if you take off the intake manifolds, be careful with the hoses as they aren't super cheap. Also, it would be a great time to get the injectors cleaned if you have the time to send them off.
Basically, you remove the intake snorkel, then the entire TB/UIM assembly above the LIm together. The first time I did it I removed everything seperately which is a waste of time. As for the cleaning, it might just be that the actuators are bad. Take them off (2 10mm nuts each) and see if they are relateive easy to operate. If they are stuck, theres your problem. Then, there is something that it was connected to that rotates (I'll try to find a pic.) That should be very easy to move. If not, then the sleeves themselves are probably stuck and you need to remove the LIM to get to them. If they move around fine then the problem was the actuators and you don't need to remove any of the intake.
There should be pics and a fairly good description in the haynes and FSM as hailers said, but I wanted to give you some pointers since I don't think its covered in detail.
