Removal of ACV/Air Pump Questions

Hi everybody. I used search, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I am planning on removing my air pump and ACV seeing as I now have a Mindtrain header/presilencer combo and don't need the cats anymore.

I have looked at both Racing Beat and Mazdatrix's web sites and haven't been able to find the block off plates, does anyone know what they are listed under??

Next question, I found the block off plates on www.2krd.com (found that in my search) but it says their plate is just for the 13b turbo, is the 13b N/A going to have the same requirements for the block of plate, I mean, are the block off plates the same for both turbo and non turbo engines??

Last question. I also read that you can remove the "EGR." I'm not exactly sure what an EGR is. What does it do?? If it's not necessary for running the engine, it's going to come out too.

Thanks,
Jeff

Lessee.. I just made my own blockoff plates.. I looked around the house for a flat piece of metal that seemed strong, and I ended up finding an old broken CDROM with a rock solid case on it.. Popped it off, dremeled it to a rough shape, then bench grinded it to smooth it out.. You could also use a computer case or something... Here's what they ended up looking like:

As for the EGR, it's directly under the upper intake manifold.. Looks like this on the top:

Buy like a big roll of gasket..it's real cheap. Cut it out to the size you need, make sure you have the bolt holes, and apply a nice amount of the correct sealant, bolt it on, and that's one less thing cluttering up your engine bay!

One trick I discovered to make this easier is to remove the item in question (egr, bac, whatever), then LIGHTLY trace it onto a paper towel/napkin.. Maybe just use lil dots around the edges to get the basic shape of it. Now, pul the paper towel on the metal you are going to cut, and, using a sharpy marker, re-trace your lines REAL DARK. This will bleed thru the paper towel, and give you the exact shape you need to cut drawn onto the metal.

What is the harm of NOT blocking off the BAC hose?

The only hose going to the egr(at least on a 86-87) is the vacuum hose from its solenoid. Don't block it off and you'll create a air leak causing rough idle. Talking EGR valve here, not something else. Located on the rear of the engine on a turbo and on a n/a its under the dynamic chamber.

I never knew you could block off the BAC valve.
What else is involved in blocking off the ACV / removing the air pump?
I'm not reinstalling mine, since it's already off (I'm rebuilding the motor) I'm not going to reinstall it.

After I removed my ACV, I kept the air pump to work the 6-ports. The air pump goes as soon as I find a better way.

What If you wired the 6port sleeves open? Or, tossed them all together?

Don't, you'll only lose performance, not gain.

If you never plan on using the ACV again, you can use quiksteel to seal it up

You can remove the BAC valve if you ditch the A/C. It just increases idle speed to compensate for the load of the A/C.

Here's a how-to on removing the ACV; the pump's easy, just unbolt it and it's bracket.
