thanks again red
it could be going out the exhaust.
as for this thread. who has a dyno sheet to show a stock powerband? everytime i see a rotary racer he is taking it to 8-8.5k. i understand porting may be in the mix there but not always as per rulebook. also, why would mazda give the s5 an 8k redline if there is no power to be had there. i mean you can't tell me they raised redline for show. it is also proven that a good flowing header will really open up the upper rpm range. not surprising when you think of that nice 90 degree turn right out of the block. so be it going past redline isn't going to be very effecient stock, a header will completely change that. so lets see some hard data here. my friends 1st gen would pull like mad up top and the only difference between ours was he had headers. anyway, just wanted to fart here for a second and leave my stink.

why rev to red line? puts the next gear closer to max power, shifting to soon puts you way under the peak
shifting to high you lose to much above the peak.
its hard to balance it but when you do you get the most out of what you have.

Darn, my attachment didn't make it.
Anyhow, last October, I dynoed my stock 91. Peak power was 139 hp, peak torque 122 lb-ft. Peak torque came at 3750 RPM, peak power at 7000 RPM. Torque drops off dramatically after 7000 RPM, power goes down to about 130 hp by 8000 RPM.
