Recent Brake Job

I recently put in new front rotors, cut my back ones, and put in Hawk HP front/rear pads.

Now I had some problems getting the front rotors off. Since my RX-7 originally was from PA, it naturally had rust on it. So at first I thought it was just rust and kept hammering the rotor. Well after 4 different techs took a swing at it, a large chunck came flying off.
I finally decided to use a 25 ton press to get the two rotors off. After that I looked and saw how much the hub rusted and oxidized to the rotor. It took a good hour or so to clean the hub of all rust.

I'll post a pic of the rotor (I kept it as a souvnier) sometime tomarrow.

I posted this mainly to warn other northern drivers about this potential problem. So if you can get it off, save yourself the time and just press them out.

Yup. except I lost about 1/3 of the rotor before I pressed it off lol.

I forgot to mention that since you are taking off the hub, you might as well regrease everything.

I completely repacked the bearing with some nice grease I had laying around. Cleaned all out right n' proper

great! lol did it surpise you too when the lock nut only goes on with abour 18ft/lbs of torque?

Yeah. I heard you were supposed to torque it pretty tight but then I decided to check the FSM and I was like WTF. Makes sense though, it's supposed to be on there snug, but not crazy *** tight.

Just to brag, it’s amazing how the components will be preserved if not driven in the rain nor inclement weather. Out '89 TII we purchased new hasn't seen rain since 1992. Just remove the screws and the rotors come right off. Still original rotors and factory original mufflers. No rust on bolts, nuts etc. and oh buy the way you'll enjoy this, still the original windshield wipers front and rear.

It's true. Mazda made some good stuff for the RX-7. I had the original windshield until a month ago.

I'm glad you found a great prestine car. That's a keeper for sure man.

I wish I could say the same for my rusty POS. I'm slowly going through and replacing anything I see that's rusted. Thank god the body doesn't have rust, at least. There are MINOR spots in places, but nothing major.

The biggest part that has rust is my Y-pipe and the front of the mufflers. I need to finish up my exhaust soon lol

Yeah **** that. I'm replacing my ENTIRE exhaust as soon as I can. I'm a bit delayed though, DriftN7 promised me mufflers and stole my money, so now I have to save up for all of it again..

I already installed the RB header and presilencer, I didn't have the money at the time to get the y-pipe and mufflers.

That also sucks that someone stole your money man

It's ok, it was my fault for trusting a "friend."

I'm hoping to get RB street racing headers, no presilencer, and the corksport catback. It'll be amazing. Really ******* loud though.

Yeah. The RB header is a huge difference in sound. It made my exhaust about 15- 25 db louder. It sounds emmensly sick past 5000rpm lol

Idling though is still quiet

A friend of mine (Blaen99) has the RB catback, but stock everything before that, and it's SUPER quiet, all the way up to redline.

yeah. From what RB told me, the RB mufflers are highly recommended with the header and presilencer. The stock mufflers don't make it quiet enough lol

meh.

I prefer loudness!

On my car, I have precat + maincat + straight pipe. It sounds pretty badass. Although there's an exhaust leak somewhere.

yeah. That was the main reason I got the header and presilencer. I had a hole in the precat.

louder is better lol. nothing is better then screaming while going 45mph and watching people turn really fast to look. HAHA

Mine only smoke when warming up. My rear bumper though turns a nice yellow hazey white. When that happens I use nail polish remover to take it out.

I have done the same brake job 4 days ago and I had to press them hubs out too. I cleaned them up with a wire wheel.

I tried lots of heat, PB rust breaker, and a dead blow hammer and no luck. A hydraulic press had to be used. I'm lucky my school's metal shop has one.
