Recalibrating gauge cluster??
I just got a new gauge cluster for my car. My car has 123k miles indicated by my stock odometer. The new one I got has 85k. Obviosly this isnt going to go well with the inpection station
. Is it possible for me to roll the miles up by hand, or will I have to take it to Mazda or something... I hope I can just do it myself.

I did that about a year ago, don't remember exactly how I did it but I think I removed the dials, set them both, and put them back together, pretty understandable when you look at it.
Ill tell you how to do it now, but pics wont be until fri if you dont figure it out. Take the guage cluster out, and take the face off the speedo. Youll see the numbers, and there will be an e clip on one or both ends of the stack of number wheels(I dont remember which). Undo the clip, and slide the numbers off the stack one at a time, and rotate them to where you want them, and then slide it down and move onto the next one.
Its pretty intuitive once you get into it. Good luck

yeah, why wouldn't you just swap 20000 miles switches and take apart and set the new one to the right mileage?? Its like a simple C clip as I remember, and very easy to do.

Bump, its friday, awaiting pics..
I just would like to visually see what exactly to do before I try and break it... Its a S5 cluster if that matters... Thanks again..!

Lots of odometers have anti-roll back bars that fall down between the numbers and make it obvious. I guess we don't have them.
The ac motor trick just uses the vac hose to connect the armature to the speedo input and you spin the sucker at a couple hundred miles an hour for a while.

I didn't really look your cluster over when you showed it to me, but couldn't you just swap the whole odometer itself from the S4 to the S5 cluster? I don't know how similar they are right there, I know the other differences. But if that piece is the same on both, why not just swap the whole unit?

The milage reading lower this year than it did last year. That looks like odometer fraud, which is a big no no..... They record the milage every time your car gets inspected. Milage reading lower this year than it did last year would raise it red flag for the state.
This is what you should be looking at. You remove the screws holding the speedo in the back of the guage cluster, and you remove the guage face, and youre left with this. The red arrow is the clip you need to remove to change the visible mileage. The yellow arrow points to what I believe is a secondary odometer someone could tell if the mileage was rolled back. The arrow points to the clips holding that stack of numbers in.
Changing the mileage is easy, and this goes for both of the number stacks. You remove the clip, slide the whole stack to the left, then slide the numbers to the right one at a time, turning it to the desired number. Piece of cake.
