Rebuilt Axle Experience?

What's everyone's experience with rebuilt axles? I searched prior to posting but most information was geared toward Turbo axles, but want to know experiences with NA axles.

I'm still waiting for my axle nuts to come in before I start, but noticed the local rebuild axles I got are somewhat different. One requires only one finger to move the spindle up / down & around, and the other requires one hand to hold the axle and other hand to move up and down. See picture of the two one hanging down.So there is quite a bit in difference between the two. Is this something to worry about?

My rebuilt axles started clicking and popping again after about 2 weeks.

Never again

It depends who rebuilds them. If you want them done right, get them rebuilt by ISC Racing in Winterhaven.

we've raced a honda for about 10 years, and as such we've replaced a lot of axles. since its a POS honda, when we buy axles, step 2 is to pull them apart clean em, and reassemble* with better grease**

most chain parts stores seem to have different grades of axles, and the big difference between these grades is the amount of grease they use, the cheap one comes with almost none, and the $$ came with lots.

the honda also NEEDS new axle clips every time we have it apart, the aftermarket reuses, and we've had a few pop out, which makes a mess

the Rx7 is nice because its RWD so the axles don't have to turn, and last forever.

*you have to be careful who you do this with, you don't know your friends until everyone is covered in lube and you are playing with shafts...
** we use the redline CV2 stuff, it works. we repack the bearings too, new bearings with parts store grease last ~12 hours, the redline extends it to ~30? sometimes the race is 25 hours long, so we don't have much margin. we reused a bearing once and the wheel fell off...

Thanks for the inputs. The axles in the pictures were ISCs but were Miata axles. There was a mix up. They are going to send RX7 axles once they get boots. They should work out ok.

I prefer Raxles but they don't want to rebuild them because of parts not being available.

Also thought about just doing them myself like j9fd3s said but with Amsoil grease. It would be a first time rebuild for me.

a CV axle is REALLY simple, although its messy, and if you do it with other people, awkwardly intimate...

j9fd3s, is rebuilding just like the Haynes manual shows? Any lessons learned other than using good grease?

If you rebuild yourself, remember is to have about 3x as many towels on hand as you think you will need to do the job. The grease is never ending. I rebuilt mine using the silicone boot/grease kits from O'Reilly. One of my boots had rotted out. These were in stock, and I've had no problems with them. Neither moved with only a finger afterward. You didn't have to try very hard to move it, but the grease thickness didn't let it flop around either.

i don't have a haynes? i cant imagine it would be much different though, a CV axle is very simple.

we always put trash bags down, or something, its MESSY. you will want towels/rags/brake cleaner/gloves.

and putting the CV clamp back on is a 3-4 hand job.

also if you overpack the axle, the grease will ooze out, so its sort of self correcting, although its messy.

I think I have all my parts now (axles, nuts and rear bearings), but I had a question on axles I just got. Appears one is slightly longer than the other (see picture). Do I need to worry about this or will they kinda self adjust when they get them installed and tightened down or broken-in?? Sorry for the noob axle question.
