rebuilds, do it yourself..or pay to do it

i'm having a problem letting someone else rebuild my motor. how many of yall done it succesfully the first time? and how much were kits? i know i've seen rb kits for 850 or some shyt. i just can't see spending 3350 at a local shop for rebuilt and a mild street port. i'm in tampa and wouldn't mind drving a few miles to drop off the motor after pulling out...help a brotha out

just a rebuild shouldnt be bad.....depending on if you need knew housings. The gasket kit and all the seals shouldt be more than 300. The rebuild (putting it back together with the new stuff) could run you the same. A street port would be around another 350.

Go to pito racing on waters and dale maybry. He'll do your street port for like 350. Just take the housings to him. once you get them back....go buy all the seals and gaskets and take it back to him or to Maztec or Mazsport and have them put it back together. Or just go to one of those places and ask them how much it would be for a rebuild.

If you need new housings you are screwed.

I dont see why a rebuild and mild street port would be 3350 unless they are taking everything out, apart and putting it all back together including seals gaskets new housings bearings etc, and tuning. Who quoted you that price?

most of that cost is probably for a warranty. There's a guy in my area that charges almost $4k, but he insures the engine forever.

he probally thought i was going to just hand him the car and keys. and it was maztech i talked to. i've got work space at my house and this is not going to be a daily driver at all so i have time to fool with it. with 167k i'm thinking the housings are shot. so i probally should just buy a flat out rebuilt t2
BEBESITO21 u know someone with a rebuilt t2 laying around????

His base rebuilds are like 1200$. Just pull the motor and ship it (should cost ~100$ each way) to him.

anybody that insures a motor for life is only insuring it while they're in business which may not be "for life"

Holy ****. For a few hundred more you could get a ALL NEW PARTS engine from mazdatrix.

That's waaaay too much for just a rebuild.

dude tri point (while they may be great builders) charges a grip - and "a grip" being a understatement. If you're looking for someone to rebuild here in cali try rotary shack, rotary power (though he 's booked for 2 weeks I think), rotary reliability. Or you can just buy two new housings, and send them, along with your engine to Kevin, and you'll basically have a new engine.

Sure you can do it your self! If you have the time (Your time is not money), you have the tools, you have the CLEAN space (You can't do this in a sandbox), and you have the drive.

Yeah, like said above get the atkins video. Maybe you have somebody locally that help you figure out of your housings and parts are reusable. Maybe you should leave the porting to somebody with experience (Just an opinion - but it is what I would do).

Good luck man!

James

Maztech is cheaper than that too. Hey Manuel, you really need to talk your friend into getting back in the business If he could do rebuilds for close to $2000 he could get alot of business.

Do it yourself. I did. Cheap..

Or take out the engine and take the engine apart. Buy whatever you need then take it to the shop for them to build up. Labor should only be 400 or soemthing. Put it back in yourself. Walla.
