Question Rebuilding a TII want to know compatibility

I got a 87 TII a while back and everything was wrong but I got it for 500 bucks so it still put a smile on my face.

I knew the engine was well abused when I got it and expected it to die before it did. I’m going to rebuild but I want to know what parts I can use, most likely I need a housing and a rotor and I was wondering if I could use a NA housing or if I have to get a rotor and housing from the same year turbo block. I expected I would need the turbo block but someone told me the NA block is the same, I’m not sure so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to check.

Any recommended places to buy seal kits Atkins etc
If I’m running low boost 10 psi tops should I go 3mm apex seals / what would you recommend
Any places that you would recommend to get parts cleaned or just to do the rebuild if they are that affordable and reliable

I’m in southern California and willing to travel as far as AZ I don’t know why I like the car this much it’s my third rx7 they have a way of doing that to you.

I’m open to any suggestions
Ex:
I was thinking about just a very mild port on the secondarys so my low end is the same because it’s mainly a city car that likes to feel G’s.
I’ve heard I should just plug the oil injector ports and run a premix I was thinking about it so I could run a synthetic oil.
Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated I plan on doing a good job and running it for years.

Once again thank you for you help

You can use an NA housing. NA housings have an exhaust diffuser that you can just cut out. There "may" be issues with the coolant passages but someone should chime in here with more info on that. You must use another S4 TII rotor though. NA blocks aren't the same because the irons are different. They have a 6 port intake configuration and TII blocks are 4 ports. The rotors also have different compression.

No need to go 3mm unless the rotor groove is out of spec. The Atkins seals should handle 10psi with no problems. Just make sure its tuned right.

As he stated your going to have to use a s4 TII rotor, i would reccomend a s4 TII housing instead of a NA. I was not aware you could use Na housings on a TII. Imo its always bad when you mismatch parts. although i saw a TII with one s4 and one s5 rotor housing running s4 rotors that put down 360hp. i dont know how it was done but it was. It was parts this dude had laying around his garage.

There is no reason to go with 3mm seals unless you are porting it and planning on big boost. the stock 2mm's size will be fine or unless as stated above that the apex groove is severly worn and the apex seal has room to float around and wont make a good seal. (this normally happens when someone severly abuses a motor or has already reused the rotors to rebuild it once.)

thanks

I don’t want to switch to a 6 port might fudge a little bit I’ll try and get some housings off an s4 any recommendation where I can pick some up? With some rotors as well? Anyone have any tips while rebuilding like porting tips or clearing water jackets around spark plugs ??

Thank you again for those that responded

Almost forgot any recommendations on turbo rebuild kits I might as well if I’m going to do the engine
