Rebuilding sunroof motor
What should I do if I want to rebuild my sunroof motor? It is running a little slow and bogs down at certian points. If I just clean it and regrease the gears, then the lines thats the motor move, will this most likely solve it?

I'd love to hear what people have done for this too.
I hate pushing up on it to get it to go back.
Or sometimes it goes and then stops. Then I have to press the button about a million times in little stutters before I get half way back and say "screw it", and do another million stutters to get it back closed.

take the sunroof out of the car, pull the motor off, pull the tubes off, and scrub evrything clean. make sure you get the tracks and evrything. the most common place that they bog down at is in the tubes at the bends. so swab them clean. i used brake cleaner some bailing wire and an old shirt. after its all shiney again, spray it all with white lithium grease. works better than new.

Pulling the sun roof is a PIA and most likely not necessary. I posted this on a similar question. I suugest you try this procedure before you remove the thing.
I did this and it worked. First, it would only open a tad and seemed that only one side wanted to move. By conventional wisdon, often stated on this forum, that seemed to indicate the cable on the weak side was frayed/broken. I did the following.
1. Used high pressue air to blow out crud
2. Used Q tips & WD-40 to get out as much crud/dirt as possible
3. It would still not move if I tapped/pushed it by myself (push while holding button down)
4. Had a friend pull evenly the two sides of the roof while I held the button and pushed from inside.
5.Bingo! it opened
6. Cleaned the bejesus out of it using WD-40, Q tips and rags. Did this at least 8 times as I recall, untill very little dark stuff remained. Lubricated with white lithium spray, opened and closed it several times to work it in
8. Removed the lithioum with Q tips & rags in order to get rid of the WD-40. Did this several times until the lithium was clean and the roof moved smoothly on the tracks without the usual tap/push to get it started.
9. Now works perfectly.
I wonder how many folks have unnecessarily replaced the entire sun roof when trying what worked for me might have saved the trouble and expense.
