Hello, I recent bought a base 87 rx7 and im doing a turbo swap. What I was wondering if it would be a good idea to rebuild the jdm once i recieved it just encase it decides to blow a seal or something a few thousand miles later? Also I have found someone a few hours away willing to do the rebuild and a port job for cheaper than most rotary shops. Any ideas or help? thanks!

Sure, you can rebuild it if you're worried. But I will say that you can learn a lot about the condition of the engine with a partial tear-down and thorough inspection. There are junk imported engines, and there are also some that are in great shape. You can't really throw them all into one category.

 

i would pull it apart, 20+ year old coolant seals scare me.

 

the rubber oil control seals can't be too favorable either.
