I did some searching and couldn't find any information on rebuilding the brake master cylinder or power brake booster. Has anyone done this before, or have a source for kits?

I guess let me clarify - I found rebuild kits for both the brake booster and the master cylinder from Mazda, but in both cases, it's cheaper to get rebuilt units from Autozone. Since the rebuilder is just installing a rebuild kit, my thought is that somewhere out there, there must be a cheaper kit than Mazda's.

Anyone have this done?

That's what I've been finding so far - I've already contacted O'Reilly about ordering the remanufactured brake booster. I want to have it come through them so I can bring my booster to the shop and compare to make sure they've got the right one rather than mail order. The questions they ask don't seem right. Like apparently the part number changes if I have rear drum brakes, but I wasn't aware of any 87 Rx7's with drums. :p Autozone seems a little more sane, because they ask whether it's a 4 or 5 lug, which would help you distinguish between the sport components. Again, I don't know why it matters in particular.

So far, just like you pointed out, the auto shops are all within $2 of each other, and in most cases it's the same price or CHEAPER to get the remanufactured unit. So I guess that's what I'll be doing :P works for me. It's just odd to me that I can get the clutch master and slave rebuild kit together for $25, but can't get a brake master cylinder kit for less than $35 or booster kit for less than $75. Basically I was just hoping there was another $15 solution somewhere I was missing.

Oh, and they're not bad, really, just weak and a little shady looking. Since I'm rebuilding the engine and repainting the engine bay, I figured I'll go ahead and refresh the car to like new. Rebuild both clutch cylinders, fully test and clean all the oil and fluid lines, rebuild the brake booster and master cylinder, polyurethane bushings. It's much easier to change this stuff out with the engine out of the way and I'd rather replace everything questionable now rather than leak oil on my newly painted engine bay.
