rebuild is finished but im not getting any power!!! please help
so. heres the story i finished my rebuild and everything. nothing went wrong i put her back in and everything. hooked everything back up minus the ecu and the last thing i do is go to connect the battery and i accidently turned the battery around the wrong way...oops. i connect the last cable and **** hits the fan, i disc. and everything turn it around and connect the pos..then the neg.. i accidently grounded the pos instead of the neg . and blew up a wire. removed it. hooked it up, the light motors lowered....removed again. hooked up one more time but nothing. i diddnt even here that click that you hear when you connect the battery...you can kind of hear the car come to life normaly..but nothing. not power to the inside, no lights, nothing happens at all when i turn the ignition...
all my fuses are ok
battery has plenty of power
i checked the battery and other grounds
is there some connecter that i might have missed that sends power to EVERYTHING in the car????what the hell is goin on???? please help becuase im a sitt ing duck here

i also have the knock sensor connected near the ecu...are all the sensors suppost to be hooked up down there? there are a couple that dont have male ends to attach to them. but regardless of the ecu...i should technicly be able to get power to the dash with out the ecu hooked up right? so then the problem therefore cannot be related to the engine harness if this is true. right? i have one week to fix this mess

well i checked the main fuse and nothing. everything was ok...what could cause the lights to work but nothing else?
guess im going to go in and check everysingle last connection
so these are the only connections in question at the moment. in the pic with the 4, i got the ground on top. and the stripped one is the oil level, and i got that one but i dont know what the other2 do. ps and ac? if so there is another connection that comes from the front of the car and is braided but IT went to the ps.
and the one with the single connector..well....i remmember connecting it to something at one point but dont remmember, i checked the FSM in the back and i couldnt find where it goes

There is a chime that tells you your lights are on, so you don't forget to turn them off when you turn off the car.
Yellow/Red is the engine temp wire. Goes in next to the oil filter. It looks like it may be broken off.
Edit: But from the pic it looks like you have an aftermarket sender for a gauge is attached, so you wouldn't need that wire anyway.

well i think at this point i should be putting something larger into question really. i think i might have to ask, what wire or connector controls the electricity to the cabin??? i would assume that its going to be on the engine BAY harness some where...becuase of the fact that sounds are showing up in the wrong places, it might lead me to believe wires are crossed somehwere...
to respond to midnightowls responce...what is this sound you speak of? becase as i remmember there never was a sound when i turn on my lights....??

First a bitch. This forum is so slow to respond/load/showup, that it's too much of a pain to even log on. Even using high speed internet connections. So I didn't look at the pictures.
BUT, if your headlights work, go up down and shine, then the problem is with the power feed to the ignition key.
That originates from the engine fuse box. If you look carefully, just below the engine fuse box and about six or so inches down and inboard, there is a single black wire with a single blade connector. Look at it carefully and see if you fried it or it has come apart. IF apart, the reconnect and try to start the car. If fried......cut the bad parts out and splice that wire back together.

Another long time to log on to this site:
Anyway, a clue that this is the problem would be the following:
a. The idiot lights in the warning cluster won't come on when the key is put to ON.
b. The wipers won't work with the key to On.
c. I'm assuming both of those item worked prior to your problem.
d. If both the wipers and the idiot lights light up with the key to ON, then the power feed wire is not your problem.
e. I went out to my car and sure enough, on a series five, that single black wire with black connector is no more than six inches below the engine bay fuse box. Check it out.
f. If the wipers and idiot light are working.....write back and we'll try another thing.

alright, ill do that asap. (running around like a headless chicken with my finals at the moment). but also i should note. when reinstalling the harness to the bay, there was a long piece of rubber that was attached to the harness (to the fuse box side of the ground) which was inbetween the harness and the bay. what does that rubber thing do?

I've been recently reminded that the MAIN fuse in the engine bay fuse box supplys power to the ignition switch. It is bolted on the engine bay fuse box, so if you have to remove it, pull a battery cable off prior to unbolting the Main fuse.
It's either a blown Main fuse or the wire I suggested above.

well i checked the main fuse, and it is in fact blown. how do i bridge it?...ehh i better search.
alright well i bridged everything to see if i would get electricity to the cabin and still nada. so hailers, can you give me a rundown on how to check this wire? thanks.

oh mamma!!!
almost there! okay sweet, i got all power to the cabin and all that good stuff...NOW, as soon as i put the key to the on position, i get this solid high pitch buzzer. similar to the redline buzzer but less annoying. when i go to start the key the buzzer goes away all other sounds go away, and the idiot lights dim...what causes this?? hrm...
oh LOL and it turns out i overlooked the main fuse in the cabin ... so what causes all other electrical components to die when i turn the key to ign.???
and might i add, my heart was pumping so fast when i went to turn that key...wondering if all your hard work pays off. wow, what a rush.

or are you talking about when you simply put the key into the "on" position?

no. not the on position, when i turn the key all the way... but there is a difference you see. i know what that sound your talking about is , sounds like everything is dimming becuase its trying to activate the starter right?...not this, all the electronics are simply dimming and dying down without doing a damn thing. i mean even if there was alil juice in the battery, it would at least initiate the starter, right?

You mean that when you try to start the car, everything dims and some things die?
Well, everything on Accessory will cut off when the starter is engaged. Everything on Ignition, will remain on while the starter is engaged. Whatever is dimming, is on Ignition current.
I think your starter may be toast.

could a bad ground wire or wiring in general to the starter cause this?
ill check:
wiring to starter
bat. terminals
battery voltage
thanks to everyone that's helped so far

Bolt in a new Main fuse.
The batterys negative cable goes from the battery to the long bolt on the starter or at least bolted to one of the transmisson attach bolts. Plus it splices off near the left strut tower and bolts there also.
Or try this: jack the car up. Put it in neutral. Get under the car and bridge the small blade connector on the starter solenoid to the large wire on the solenoid. The starter should crank over. That should prove whether or not the battery and or the batt connections are good or not.
And another question. If you have the headlights on and go to Start, do the headlights go completly dim/off or just dim a bit? Will the headlights still go up./down after you try to Start the car???
