For my rebuild I only did 500 miles to the brake in process and That was a year ago to be axact so i say you already broke it in so you should be able to play with your motor now!! But doesn't hurt to get second opinion, Good luck and Have Fun!!

How they run later in life is highly dependent on how they get broken in for the first 2000 miles or so. Rotaries are pretty weak as far as starting, power, and response during the breakin period. They build up their power level the more they run, and must be broken in easily to run well later, which is the opposite of what is common knowledge about piston engine rebuilds. this is from rotoryresurrection. i believe ive seen a chart of some sort or a list of how your suppose to brake it in. dont remember where. do a search

My recommended break-in procedure...
First 1,000 miles - 4kRPM ceiling, no boost for turbo engines, oil change
Next 500 miles, 6kRPM ceiling, progressively more boost up to 5psi
Next 500 miles, up to redline and progressive boost up to max.
By 2,000 miles, it should be full broken in. You're close to that, and I think your break-in rules are too conservative.
