What's wrong with it? Usually the dash harness stays behind the dash... It doesn't really wear out.

It also doesn't see much in the way of heat, or any other kind of abuse. The only abuse I can think of would be from people wiring in radios/alarms/other worthless crap. Usually poking through the FSM makes repairing pretty easy though. I just recently redid my '87 dash harness because it's got a S5 dash (and harness) installed, and I figured I'd remove everything not needed (no radio, speakers, heating/ac or anything else of the sort). Also ran me a couple of dedicated power sources for gauges/other misc crap that came from the fuseblock's radio source originally and left them behind the center console.

I'll take a look at the FSM and see what would be related between the two and post some ideas for where to look.

the room fuse powers alot more than just the dash harness iirc.

The 'ROOM' fuse is typically the 'memory' feed for devices such as the ECU/Radio/ETC, it's also used to power the Interior Lights/CPU (Buzzer, etc)/Anti-theft. If you have an aftermarket radio that's almost ALWAYS the first place to look for ROOM issues.

The 'METER' fuse is not short on it's list of functions either.

Cruise / Meters & Warning Lights / Back-up Lights / AAS / Cooling Fan / HVAC / Anti-Theft / Warning & **** (Idiot cluster) / Door & Ignition Key Lights

The most common areas these would 'run' together are the radio and the center console.

The center console area (just behind the shifter) both of these running there, as does directly behind the radio. Look for shorts in any B/Y or L/R wires.

The only thing I can think of that'd prevent you from starting the car when either of those 'pops' is the anti-theft device triggering the starter lock. The relay is interestingly enough powered by the 'POWER ST' fuse. If you're in a pinch pulling that fuse out should disable the starter lock relay allowing the car to start.

It's the wire colors

B/y = Black with yellow stripe
L/R = Blue with red stripe

Both of these are located in the AAS switch connector, which could be shorting out under the console for some reason or another. Does the car have a stock radio still? Would limit the number of area's to look, as you never do know what people do when they throw in an aftermarket radio. The L/R also goes to the security light under there.

and it's usually not a harness issue but what the harness plugs into is at fault.

Given the number of previous owners and their ghetto fabulous 'wiring', i find it more likely to be the other way around. Typically it's an overdraw issue if what plugs into it pops the fuse, which most often is easy to reproduce. For random fuse popping like this that seems to have no defined cause, rubbing ground/exposed connectors/**** poor crimp jobs are the more likely source.
