1.Checked the Mazda parts computer and there is no such thing as a New Engine. There is only a remanufactured engine available and the list price is about $2485 Can(plus taxes of course).
2.The nearest thing to a new engine would be to buy new parts and assemble them.I couldn't afford it!Rotor housings-$540 each,rotors-$480 each, apex seals-$55 x6,oil seal kit etc etc.
3.Don't use a gouged housing. Also if you have any mileage at all the housings are likely out of spec width wise(they shrink).

I can't answer your question, but I do know that that Mazda's core charge is $600 and that the dealer is required to accept a core if you have one.The only requirement for the core is that it be devoid of fluids,be the same model as the one purchased and be assembled. The net cost to you for a reman motor should be $2485.Also most dealers here in Ontario will discount for cash(typically $200,their cost is about $1900).
I have used 2 Mazda rebuilds over the past 5years and have been happy with them.

I've been told by a rotary engine builder of 10 years that the Mazda engines are built to very exacting standards. Matching their quality if very diffacult, but some can come close.

This issue for you, IMHO, is irrelevant. If you're running a modified turbo II and you screw something up, all the build quality in the world isn't going to keep that motor together.
