reasonable budget for turbo swap ?

88 vert manual

Looking at a very good condition turbo motor and tranny with wiring harness and ecu for 1500 (inspected it myself)

now the other bits and goodies i have set aside another 2 000 which i think seems fair but i would like input

so 3500 total? What do you guys think

Walboro fuel pump
Miata torsen diff
Custom driveshaft so i dont have to replace the rear end
Im thinking front mount but it may blow my budget
Plugs,wires, filters etc
New clutch.
Turbo hood which i already have.
All misc sensors including maf

Anything im missing?

Ditch the Miata diff, and go Stock TII..TII driveshaft.
Plugs, wires, filters are normal part if the regiment when you are maintaining.
New clutch.if it warrants it.
Sensors yes.
FMIC?.well Sorry I honestly do not think that is in your budget or your scope of mechanical ability.I sort of know your skill level.Besides you are not elaborating f you are going to make this Vert a 300HP or up Beast. The TMIC is just fine.
..and Turbo?.BNR..Why?.so you do not have to buy a New turbo,manifold,downpipe,lines,Wastegate,..get the Exahsut fabricated to fit all together..
The Swap is the easy part.Pull the engine, put TII engine in.
It is what goes on the car after that really adds up,and sucks the living **** out of your wallet..just as quick as the car accelerates your budget will inflate.

If you already have the TII hood, then you won't need a front mount. 90% of the time, they end up giving you cooling issues anyways. I'd keep the $ for the front mount and get a good aluminum radiator. I'm using a NA 4.10 rear end in my turbo convertible with a TII driveshaft that a local driveshaft shop modified for me. I think it came out to around $150. I ran a hybrid turbo on it for a while and have no problems with it still. It will last you so long as you're not going to do stupid stuff with it. I think a torsen differential would be a great upgrade, if you can get one for a decent price. What's really great is that they don't require clutch pack shimming. Miata guys don't like to let them go too easily though.

A torsen will be fine at those power levels, its not until 300 or so that they start getting iffy, and even then most of the failures I've heard about were from launching. (although one guy was just cruising @ 40mph when it came apart)

Forget the front mount, the to mount will be fine for the outer you will make, just remember to keep the stock turbo below 13psi. If you have a little extra $ consider a water/meth injection kit. Look up username Sen2two, he modified the stock tmic and added meth injection w/ pretty good success.

get the FMIC. 2 1-5 gear boost pulls will not be sufficient for a night of fun. This will also save your engine from popping on a day that your luck's not so great.
