Rear Wing

Rear Wing

Does anybody know how to find the little plastic parts to attach the rear wing? Or if you modified, what did you do to keep the wing on and fitting correctly? So far I added to little studs, It seems like there were some sticky teflon type washers attached to the body where the studs go through. The large plastic clips have broken so, I'm wondering if I should just find a large enough nut and washer to keep it attached. So what did you do?

Nut and washer to kep the studs down and double sided tape to keep the ends in place. No big deal

The wing mounting hardware is total crap but very specific, so you kind of need to source the OEM stuff.
It's common for the 6mm studs on the two rear "feet" to break, there are several ways to repair them.
Of the four different types of mount used on the wing the best are the larger studs in the middle of the "arms". They use large plastic nuts that you can screw on by hand, so they don't rust and break like the little ones in the rear do.
I don't even know what the hell king of fastener is used at the corner of the body, they're weird.
The very ends of the wing are held down with screws that engage a plastic insert in the body.
This insert is kept from spinning by anchoring in a second, smaller hole in the body.
The whole setup is awful.

Thanks guys, clokker your right about the set-up. That's why I was hoping to get any ideas from somebody about how they fixed up their wing setup.. Anyhow, I guess I'll just bolt it up and hope it's good enough... The corner section seems to be the problem part. I was looking for a stud that is part half screw and half regular stud, but couldn't find anything... The rubber wing I guess has it's good and bad points... rubber is good that the wing is flexible, but not good for attaching screws to.

I took an alunuim wing off an s10 blazer and modified it using fiberglass and jb weld. I also drilled the feet out to accept carb bolts 5/16. I don't have my rubber meeting suface yet but I'm sure it won't be too hard

"thethingthatshouldnotbe" That was an idea. That's kinda what I was looking for. What I ended up doing was, I found a screw/stud. It's like looking at half screw and half stud. I didn't know this but it is called a "hanger bolt" Used primarily for wood projects. Using that bolt, the original corner steel mount, a couple of nuts, a spacer, a couple of steel washers and rubber washers. I got the corner secured to the body. I can see why Mazda originally used these plastic twisting things, because there's almost no room to squeeze your arm and hands in the areas you need to reach into to attach the wing to the body. My forearms are cut, sore, and bruised, but I did manage with time, cussing and imagination.. (you have to imagine the tips of your fingers reaching the bolt and very carefully turning the nut onto the bolt!) You really have to use the force to do this part. Ha! But it can be done. Oh yea, after you get the nut on the stud, you still have to use your ratchet to tighten the nut, but don't worry because you've mastered using the force to get the nut on the bolt, so this is only ALMOST as tough!
