rear wheel bearing freeplay

Hey guys, I replaced my rear wheel bearings recently. Luckily I got my rear wheel bearings for free from the previous owner that did not install them.

Anyways, they went in a littke crooked when pressing bearing into alluminum hub. Now I can feel the freeplay and it seems excessive. How much should there be? Does bolting the axle down help it?

I feel so stupid, I noticed the outside of the bearing was a tad over 3", and I could not find something really good of a fit , so I just useed something that was 3 inches.

Anyone in the Southern CA area have a good sized piece of metal to press the bearing into the hub?

When the car is put back together there should be 0 play.

I replaced my rear bearings and after sitting outside for some time they unseated a bit, putting the axles back on and torquing them down reseated them.

I don't know how it being crooked would affect it though. I am surprised you got it go all the way in crooked.

What about before installed it? Hopefully one side isnt too bad.

This is the stupid part, one went in decent and might be ok, or at least I hope it is ok. I noticed I needed something a tad over 3" but under 3 1/8" to press the bearing into the hub. I ended up using a 3" piece of delrin(hard plastic) stock I had. So the delrin's freeplay and the freeplay in my buddies Harbor freight press combined, made it go in pretty crooked.

It was fully seated straight at the end. One was so crooked, I was looking at it for a few seconds, and it restraightened out with a noise. Hopefully my hub isnt cracked
