Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
Its not Fungus, it is the silver oxidation from too much moisture.
The mirror (all FC mirrors) are pressure fitted to the plastic assembly.
You can slightly warm the plastic up, (like out in the sun for an hour) and then using a rounded edge pry bar, work it between the mirror glass and the plastic body.
But usually the easiest way is to just bust the glass if there is silver oxidation, as you will need to replace it. You can't clean it.
Also you should note that convertibles use a different mirror than the coupes, and you won't be able to use a coupe mirror as a replacement. Coupe mirrors are considerably bigger. But as a positive thing, the pre-97 Miata's use the same mirror (but not mounting assembly) as the 88-92 FC convertibles.
And finally, you don't want to undo the screw on the back of the mirror assembly as you will never get the screw back in to the correct plates inside that hold the mirror to the ball, without removing the mirror glass itself.

You can go to a Autozone (or whatever) and they have trim to fit mirrored plastic you can use. Just stick on top of the old mirror or bust the old one and replace. Just affix it with some double sided trim tape.
